Announcing Kits to Heart

After much anticipation, I am so pleased to finally announce the soft launch of my social enterprise, Kits to Heart!

Kits to Heart: Cancer does not have to be a lonely journey.

What is it? Kits to Heart seeks to care for the whole person by providing a thoughtfully designed, curated cancer care kit for patients. KTH stands by its motto: “Better care, everywhere.” Not only will the kit include items that patients need during the course of treatment, but it will also provide information on psychosocial support and financial resources.

Why now? I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in January 2018. This March marked my one-year anniversary since receiving my last treatment. Upon being admitted, I was so surprised to see a care package left by a former patient. It inspired me to pay it forward, and never have I been more ready, more passionate than now.

Plus, having run the gamut of cancer treatments, I have observed three core problems in cancer care: 1) cancer patients lack both material and psychosocial resources to guide them through their treatment; 2) well-intentioned friends and family have no idea what to offer to newly diagnosed cancer patients; and 3) the cancer journey is often a lonely one.

How bad is cancer? Really bad. This year, 1.8 million Americans will hear the words, “You have cancer.” By 2040, the global burden is expected to grow to 27.5 million new cancer cases, according to the American Cancer Society. As a young adult, it’s crazy to think that nearly 90,000 of us are diagnosed with cancer each year.

How can you help? Check out kitstoheart.org to give a kit to someone in need, and/or make a one-time donation. Each dollar goes directly toward the cancer care kits. I’m also hiring marketing and finance roles, so please feel free to share this post and tell your networks.
