On Friday, after weeks of not eating or drinking, my 12-year-old Pomeranian went to get surgery for her teeth, which we thought was the reason for her recent pathetic behavior.
Instead, the vets found a tumor in her neck that had metastasized to the point of no return. Blossom, or more fondly B—my best friend—had to be put down.
And I wasn’t able to be there.
Instead, while life took away someone I loved on the other side of the world, I reunited with another love in Bangkok.
When I had found out the next morning, the onsen spa and Thai massage we had planned could not have been better timed. While soaking peacefully in one of the hot baths, I couldn’t help but think of how the fact that life gives and takes was so easily illustrated that day.
August 14 was a day I had been looking forward to for so long. Little did I know life would balance out in such a way.
I miss you, Blossom. Rest in peace.
